Have you finalized your list of homes? Now you are thinking about how to research schools when buying a house.

I’m a mom and so I know the importance of knowing how to research schools when buying a house. Even if you don’t have kids, knowing what the schools are like in the community of your home will later help you have greater resale value or appeal to more buyers. Who doesn’t want to know more about their new neighborhood right?

Why Research Schools?

Who doesn’t want to know more about their new neighborhood right? In this blog, I am going to give you the best of the best resources so that you can make an informed decision about the home, schools, and community you select.
I have put together a list of resources for you to help you keep moving forward, Even if you are completely new to an area knowing almost nothing about the schools, the traffic, the population, and all that stuff. I will be sharing a bonus resource designed specifically for Texas schools.

Resources

If you like reports, Realtors can pull a report for a specific property or municipality that gives you all the details you want to know. The information contained is backed up by A-1 data, studies and research. My top 3 resources:

(1) Schooldigger.com

(2) Niche.com

(3) Greatschools.org

*Bonus: For Texas is txschools.gov

What to Research?

You will possibly want to review enrollment information, school ratings, test scores, and public reviews. Each resource may also have a map showing the school’s location and contact information. You can review ratings and data for other schools nearby. Once you have made your decision, talk with your Realtor and request a customized home search that will send you properties that are for sale within the school district or your area of interest. Also keep in mind if the community is brand new reporting may not be available for possibly 1 to 2 years.

School Days

One more tip...

If you get an opportunity be sure to contact the school or make arrangements to take a tour of the school and meet some staff members. You want to go into your new place with your mind at ease.
